The Last 10
(New Glasgow, NS – September 21, 2011) – United Way of Pictou County is preparing to wrap up their annual campaign with just 10% more to go to reach their goal of $300,000.
Executive Director, Jessica Smith, is trying to remain optimistic that the last 10% will be achieved before the end of February. “With so many charities depending on us, we hope that we can achieve our goal so we do not have to reduce or deny anyone funding.”
“But it certainly wasn’t for a lack of effort,” Smith said, “without the dedication and kindness of our many volunteers and donors, we wouldn’t have been able to raise the $270,000 that we have today.” Smith also expressed her appreciation for the leadership of the Campaign Team of Marnie Anderson, Allyson Shaw, Nathan MacLeod, and David Whittemore.
In 2011, United Way supported 16 agencies in Pictou County aimed at meeting the community’s health and social service needs. Along with providing funding for local non-profit agencies, United Way is committed to strengthening the community by facilitating programs and services that link people and resources. They also run a successful Bikes for Kids program and partner with other community groups such as the Welcoming and Inclusive Community, Pictou County Volunteer Coalition, Pictou County Partners, and the Food Security Coalition.
The campaign will officially wrap up on Wednesday, February 29th and anyone wishing to make a donation can drop into the United Way office at 342 Stewart St., New Glasgow, call 755-1754, or donate online.
